Compiling the works of artist Mikhail Karikis made in the past decade, For Many Voices includes both carefully selected images and critical essays in dialogue with his artistic practice.
Closely collaborating with children, elderly and disabled people confronted with alarming issues of labour and ecology, Karikis challenges the boundaries between actors and those acted upon, exploring the revolutionary potential of sound and embodied voice. What are the actual desires and demands of those who are mostly overheard? How can their voices be authentically expressed through artistic means? How to avoid speaking on behalf of the seemingly voiceless but let them speak for themselves?
